Hi, my name is Joanne (she/her), and I’ve worked for over two decades as a frontline child welfare worker in Ontario and am now working to complete my PhD in Social Work. My dissertation research looks at the ways that, despite what can be presumed to be the best of intentions of legislators, policy makers, administrators, and frontline child protection social workers, and despite the numerous attempts to make changes to the child welfare system in Ontario, many oppressive, discriminatory, and punitive practices continue.
