Formats for stories

  • We invite you to add your story to this collection in whatever format feels right for you. 

    • Written, audio, visual

      • Some examples might include written (e.g., poem or written narrative), audio (e.g., song or spoken word), and visual (e.g., visual art or video). Do not feel limited to the examples listed. 

        • Upload your story file (jpeg, mp3, mp4, mov, aac) by attaching a link to your file (e.g., drive, dropbox, etc.)

        • Or enter your written story in the textbox.

Process of Sharing 

  • On the Get Involved page, click Submit Your Story, then you will either upload a file, link to an external website, or enter text in the textbox. 

  • Identify up to 5-10 ‘tags/themes’ that will help folks find your story, using the “tag”  space

  • You will be asked to complete the following text fields:

    • Name

    • Email address

    • Country

    • Connection to child welfare (one line 255 characters)

  • You will be asked to answer two check-box questions

    • That you agree to the Rules of Submission, Community Guidelines, and Privacy Policy, and certify all identifying information has been removed.

    • That you are over the age of 18 years old.

  • You will be asked to agree to the Acknowledgement and Consent for submitting your story

  • The story will be submitted to the Child Welfare TRUTH-Telling Collective Communications Team who will review the story to ensure it follows the rules for submission. 

    • If your story includes visual content, please include a short write-up of the visual and biography if you so choose.

  • The Communications Team will review your story for any instances in which identifying information may accidentally be included. 

  • If the Communications Team edits your story to remove identifying information, the Team will send you a copy of the edited version for you to review. 

  • Upon approval, your story will be posted on the website under the Stories tab.

Tips for Sharing Your Story

  • Please upload your story as a file (jpeg, mp3, mp4, mov, aac)

by attaching a link to your file (e.g., drive, dropbox, youtube)

Share your written story by entering it in the textbox.

  • Please identify your connection to child welfare. This may include your position as a worker, parent, former foster child, etc.

    Please identify some themes to help others find your story:

    • Theme ideas: foster care, supervised access, adoption, experiencing child welfare, organizational culture, doing protection work, doing harm, developing policy, forced removal, out-of-home care, etc.

  • We ask that you keep you and all other identifying information in your story anonymous. This includes all other names, locations (cities, neighbourhoods, schools, etc.), workplaces/agencies, etc.

  • You will be asked to state you have reviewed your story and you agree that all identifying information has been removed:

    • ‘I certify that story meets these criteria’

  • You will be including your name and contact information to the CWTTC, however none of this information will be shared alongside your story or with anyone outside of the Communications Team. Your personal information will be stored for 24 months.

  • Share only photos/videos/artwork/etc that you’ve taken/made or have the right to share. You must own the content you post on The Child Welfare TRUTH-Telling Collective’s website. Remember to post authentic content, and don’t post anything you’ve copied or collected from the Internet that you don’t have the right to post.

  • People like to share photos or videos of their children. For safety reasons, we will remove images that show children. Even when this content is shared with good intentions, it could be used by others in unanticipated ways.

  • Post photos/videos/artwork/etc that are appropriate for a diverse audience.

Rules for submission

  • By submitting your story you agree to Community Guidelines and Privacy Policy.

  • Stories will be submitted to CWTTC for review to ensure stories follow ‘rules for submission’.

  • You must be at least 18 years old to use this Site and to submit your story. Individuals will ‘agree’ via the submission check-box that they are over 18yrs old when submitting a story.

  • You must own the content that you submit to our website. Any content that has been copied from another source will be removed.

  • Any content that includes visuals of individuals under the age of 16 years old will be removed.

  • We do not share your personal information with companies, organizations, or individuals outside of CWTTC except in the following cases:

    • Suspected imminent danger to themselves or others, and breaking confidentiality is necessary to resolve the danger.

    • Suspected child, elder, or dependent adult abuse.

    • Court-ordered request.

  • All stories must be anonymized to the best of the submitter’s ability and will be reviewed by the Communications Team to ensure anonymity.

  • Remember, when you share information publicly, your content may become accessible through search engines, including Google Search.

  • We want to emphasize that you the submitter are responsible for your content and that we have no liability in the event that people are able to glean identifiable details from the stories, even if anonymized.

  • Content is the responsibility of the person that provides it to the website. CWTTC is under no obligation to host or serve content. If you see any content you believe does not comply with this Agreement, including by violating the Community Guidelines or the law, you can report it to us by emailing us at info@childwelfarecollective.org
