cwttc’s archival project.

Curious about what policies and legislation led to the development of the residential schools and the child welfare 60s Scoop in Ontario, Canada? Under the umbrella of the Child Welfare TRUTH-Telling Collective, The Child Welfare Archival Project is organizing and analyzing documents surrounding these atrocities, including (but not limited to): past and present legislation, organizational policies, government committee minutes, research collections, agency documents, etc. We are compiling a database of 300+ documents organized on the platform Airtable.

Learning from child welfare history is related to our responsibilities in stopping the harms that these systems cause. At present, we are preparing a series of op-ed style publications and conference presentations. The focus of these publications is on the ways that the genocidal aims of child welfare services continue to permeate and shape existing policies and practices.

One of the goals of this project is to provide access to the archival documents that are not restricted by copyright. Many of them are hard to find; some hail from private collections. When the document is restricted by copyright our goal is to provide a roadmap for their acquisition.
