Bibi Baksh
Dr. Bibi Baksh is a Guyanese Muslim woman; mother and grandmother living in Canada for over 40 years. Her professional experience in Child Welfare spans over 30 years and included roles as foster parent, front line protection, children’s services worker, and researcher. During these years, Bibi’s experiences as a racial and religious minority involved in the child welfare system informed her practice but also colored her overall involvement with the system; she experienced racism in the various positions.
Bibi’s PhD research titled “Adrift in Unchartered Waters: A case Study of a Muslim Family Involved with Child Protection Services in Ontario” examined issues particular to Muslim clients involved in the child welfare system using a case study approach. The research represents the voice of a Muslim refugee father whose children were apprehended and placed in care.
Her experience also includes community work with members of the Muslim community involved in child welfare.
